Is it difficult to learn Norwegian?
Maybe not as difficult as you think.
If you speak English, you already know some Norwegian. They are both Germanic languages, and have similar grammar structure and a lot of common words. You probably will understand the meaning of words as “organisasjon” and “katt” without using a dictionary.
And if we compare with other foreign languages as German or Spanish, there is not the same need to learn a lot of different verb forms in Norwegian.
The Norwegian pronunciation neither represents any problems for English speakers. After a few lessons you will be able master all the usually sounds in the Norwegian language.
Some challenges are there, though. The most important is to work regularly with your language course, and – if you live in Norway – don`t accept that they are talking to you in English.
Am I too old to learn Norwegian?
No, You´re not!
This lack of self-confidence begins for some persons already in the forties.
And no, we don`t think you can be too old to learn a new language.
Younger is of course better, but older people have something not all youngsters seem to have today, – namely time.
If you are retired and need a hobby, learning a language is the perfect project. In fact, it`s recommended as brain training. You have to learn new structures and need to activate new parts of your brain, which is perfect to remain active.
And with studying at your own pace, you will note the progress after a while. Take your time and have fun learning!
